🐟 Dataset: [Japan] Fresh/Chilled Yellowtail Fillet Export (2022–2024)
Released March 2026
This dataset provides export performance data for Japan’s fresh/chilled yellowtail (Japanese amberjack) fillets supplied to the United States and other global markets, including export volume, value, and average unit price. Yellowtail exported from Japan in fresh/chilled fillet form is generally considered to be farmed fish.
Farmed yellowtail species (genus Seriola)—such as yellowtail (Japanese amberjack, “hamachi”), greater amberjack, and kingfish (hiramasa) —are cultivated worldwide for sushi and sashimi markets.
In Japan, farmed production is dominated by yellowtail, followed by greater amberjack, while kingfish accounts for only a small share. Although exports of Japanese yellowtail are primarily in frozen fillet form, there is also a smaller but established market for fresh fillet exports.
This dataset summarizes export results by destination country for the years 2022 through 2024. The data are provided in a convenient Excel format and are available for free download.
